WELLBEINGS TRAINING  – RUN, SWIM OR BOTH

Happy runners @ Floreat Oval

We are a group of like-minded individuals who regularly come together to achieve our own fitness goals or simply to be a little more active in our day to day lives.  We have women and men ranging in age from mid 20s to early 70s. Some of our gang have been with Wellbeings for 20+ years and are still loving their involvement.  We welcome all and celebrate everyone’s achievements whatever they may be.

Wellbeings had its infancy early in the 2000s.  We started out offering Women’s Only Triathlon courses for novice athletes. The courses would run for 8 weeks during which time we would meet for three sessions / week (one swim, one cycle, one run). At the end of the course most of the group participated in a novice length triathlon. . We taught hundreds of women how they could be active through swimming, cycling and running – and for many completing a triathlon was a bucket list item achieved.

After a few years we were approached to conduct a similar programme for men and so Wellbeings for blokes came about in 2004. Using the same model as the women’s courses we coached many men to complete their first triathlon.

Over time there was a need for ongoing training because the women and men who had completed the introductory course wanted to maintain their fitness and work towards new goals. Eventually, Wellbeings X-Training became a year-round programme catering for a wide range of competencies and fitness levels.

In the early days the focus was on triathlon participation and we have had some incredibly successful age-group athletes come out of the programme. Now, our members participate in our programme for many reasons – some still train for triathlon, others for Park Runs, community fun runs and even international marathons.  Others just simply enjoying exercising with other folk and being part of a group who support, inspire and encourage them!

In the summer months, many of our members participate in open water swim events and span all level of capabilities.  More recently we have seen a growing interest from the team in participating in trail running and swim-run events.

You are welcome to join us, improve your fitness and have fun with some terrific people.
