Wellbeings offers two sessions each week, each with a different focus. The Wednesday morning session is structured around interval training. Whilst the Friday run is more continuous in nature and usually includes a tempo component or hill repetitions.
Interval Training
Our Wednesday run intervals session is held at Floreat Oval in the winter where we have access to lighting and Alderbury Reserve in the summer months.
We cater for all fitness levels. Some runners are just getting going and so their intervals would comprise short distances of easy paced running followed by a walk recovery. We also cater for runners who are preparing for Park Runs of 5 km, 10 km, half and full marathons as well as trail-ultras. For these runners, their intervals vary from 200m and 400m repetitions for leg speed and running economy, to mile reps to build endurance at threshold pace and above.
Tempo Running
The Friday run leaves from the Cambridge Council Offices on Bold Park Drive at 5:45 a.m.
Runners choose one of two routes – one shorter (6 or 8 km) and one longer (10 – 12 km). Our group numbers are such that no one is left to run solo. There are no rules around what pace you must be able to run.
Runners with goals to participate in community events have the option of making this their tempo run for the week. The tempo efforts are included in the workout adding value to the run.
